Springtime Transformations & Celebrating a year at Golden Square

We always look forward to springtime here at JAMstudio, as it often marks the start of the next raft of building projects and a welcome barrage of new inquiries. Together with developed works commencing on site, it is great to see our designs emerging from the earth just like the snowdrops and daffodils emerging from their wintry slumbers.

This year the start of spring also marks our first anniversary at the Golden Square Studio, and we thought it would be a great opportunity to look back at some of last year’s transformations starting with our own project and looking at a couple of almost complete client works.

JAMstudio Golden Square office:

What started as a very gloomy and dark space, that had not been let for over 2 years has been transformed from unloved cavern to a light, bright, contemporary and very comfortable new office space, with a variety of different work zones, including collaborative areas, quiet focus pods, brainstorming meeting booth, boardroom and team table, not to mention relaxation space and full kitchen.

As it is now:

It has been a great space to work in, and it has been very interesting to see how well the spaces perform, particularly when the office is very busy. On a number of occasions we have had a mixture of client and internal meetings underway in more than 80% of the areas at once; all in what is essentially a large open plan space.

We have been delighted by the very positive feedback we have received from both clients and general visitors to the space, and so far have several offices fit out projects underway where clients have liked what they have seen so much they have asked us to work on implementing something similar for their own offices.

Milltimber Family Home Extension:

A tired flat roof double garage replacement has allowed us to balance the original house, with a connecting glass atrium, housing stairs to a custom designed entertainment space complete with pool table and bar. Together with a modest rear extension to the existing house to provide a better family kitchen and dining area, plus utility room and downstairs WC, this has given our clients a much better proportioned house and the extra living space they desperately needed for their growing family.

Listed Manse, Cluny:

A huge transformation has been effected at the listed manse, including re-roofing, re-insulating where possible, plus a large traditionally styled rear extension. The extension provides the family with a superb family dining, kitchen and living space, with dramatic views to their garden and the stunning scenery beyond.

Traditional materials and building methods have been incorporated together with the latest in modern gadgetry including a heating system with controls that can be worked from anywhere in the world. The single piece marble top to the internal island is the largest installed in Scotland to date which, combined with the hand built walnut kitchen, gives a distinctive look for the interiors.

Optical Manufacturing Facility, Aberdeen:

The redevelopment of the optical manufacturing facility for Duncan & Todd took a dark, cramped set of spaces and whilst keeping the facility operational, transformed them into the state of art optical manufacturing lab, the only one of its kind in Scotland.
